Career Corner Why its important to use your intuition in your career search - Hallie Crawford

Career Corner Why its important to use your intuition in your career search - Hallie Crawford Choosing a career path thats right for you is a process. Heres a tip that can help you get started. Tip of the Month: Why its important to use your intuition in your career search I’d like to share a story that happened to me several years ago during a job interview. The whole time I was being interviewed, I kept thinking to myself “I’m going to have to wear pantyhose in this job.” (I hate pantyhose! I did not want to have to wear pantyhose!) I was also thinking, “This person has a personality that Im not sure would be a fit for me. I think it would be a challenge to work for her. I had a gut sense that it wasnt a fit. So the interview ended and I was offered the job. What do you think I did? I accepted. Wrong decision. The position turned out to be a disaster. Do you see what happened here? By not listening to my intuition, I paid the consequences. Have you ever had an experience like this where you took a job simply because it was offered? You may have heard that voice inside saying, “this might not be a fit,” but you accepted the position anyway. I think many of us have. We made a decision without paying attention to our intuition and we paid for our mistake. So when you hear that voice inside listen to it! For example, say you’re browsing the internet looking at job openings. You come across something that you believe is a good fit, but as you read the job description, you get an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach. Stop right there and move on! Don’t linger. Look for something that feels right. Always use your intuition in your job search. Let it tell you when something’s not right and when it is. Trust it. You won’t regret it.
